Apply for Scholarships

Algoma High School students can apply for scholarships through the Algoma Area Education Foundation using the application below. Be sure to review the important dates and eligibility before submitting your application.

2026 Applications Open:
March 16, 2026 at 9 AM

Applications Close:
April 17, 2026 at Midnight

Scholarship recipients will be honored at the
Senior Awards & Scholarship Night on May 14th.

Are you ready to apply for scholarships?

The following information is to help you prepare for the scholarship application process. You will have the opportunity to apply for multiple scholarships through our AAEF Scholarship Application for an easier and more streamlined approach to your scholarship process.​

 

The application should take you one to one and a half hours depending on your preparedness. The more you prepare using the information below, the faster the application process will be.

Important Reminders

You must be a future graduate of the Algoma Area School District to apply for any of the scholarships offered on the following pages.

The application is processed through a Google Form which saves automatically, however, it's recommended to have your materials ready to make your application faster and more efficient. Therefore, this page is to help you prepare for your application so it goes quickly and smoothly. 

Step One:
Gather Documents

You will need to submit the following documents. Please upload them to your Google Drive. Change the sharing settings to "Anyone with the link can view." 

Transcripts

You will need to submit your current Algoma High School transcript. If you need help, please see the office for assistance.

Letters of Recommendation

You need one letter from a representative of the Algoma School District (ie. teacher or guidance counselor) AND an additional reference letter from a person who is a non-relative (for a total of two reference letters).

Documents from Post-Secondary 

You will need to submit one of these items:

  • Proof of Enrollment from an educational institution

  • An acceptance letter from educational institution

  • A document with a list of schools that you've applied to or been accepted to

Step Two:
Prep for Application Questions

Beyond the essays, there may be some short answer questions. While they may be short answer, it will be helpful to have them answered already in a document and to transfer them onto the application. 

List of Clubs & Teams

We will be asking for a list of names the clubs or teams you've joined, your leadership roles, and how you've served your community through them. Please note that lists are fine and they do not need to be in complete sentences. To make it easier, please upload a list into your google drive. In the application you will include the link to this document.

List of Any Work Experiences

We will be asking for a list of any work experience you've had (paid or unpaid), volunteering, internships, or apprenticeships and a brief description of the responsibilities you had or the skills you gained through the experience. Please note that lists are fine and they do not need to be in complete sentences. To make it easier, please upload a list into your google drive. In the application you will include the link to this document.

Initial Application Questions

  • Four-Year College Scholarship Application​​

    • What major and/or minor are you planning to pursue?

    • What are your career interests?

  • Career and Technical Colleges Scholarship Application:

    • Do you hold any industry-recognized certifications relevant to your field of study? For example - CNA, Early Childhood Education, Ahnapee Auto/Diesel, etc.

    • What specific field of study or technical skill are you interested in pursuing at the career and technical college? (automotive technology, culinary arts, welding, etc)​

Step Three:
Write Essays

You will need to submit the following essays depending on the scholarship in which you'd like to apply. You will be asked for a link to a shared Google document.

Use of AI is not allowed. You will be asked to verify AI was not used on your application.

Algoma Area Education Foundation Scholarships

This essay question must be completed by anyone applying for one of the AAEF sponsored scholarships. The question may be written (300-500 words) or in a video format (max 5 minutes long). You will need to choose one question from this list of questions:

  • What are your educational and career goals and why they are important to you?

  • What are your strengths and how do they align to your goals?

  • What do you see as personal areas of improvement and what strategies will you use to improve them?

Community Scholarships

The following community and donor scholarships have an additional essay question to complete. Whether you have to do them will depend on which scholarship(s) you are interested in applying for and your eligibility. They must be less than 500 words and may not be completed with a video.

  • Normal Mueller & Marge Curtin Scholarship: "Fifty+ years from now, what do you, as the student applicant, hope that those who know you best will say when asked to describe you?"

  • Muskrat City Sportsman's Club Scholarship: "How has your involvement in outdoor related activities helped you grow individually, expand your interest in this field, and help your community?"

  • Kewaunee County Tavern League Scholarship: "Who has been the person that has influenced you the most in your life and why?"

  • Janice (Dettman) Hanamann Memorial Scholarship: "What are your passions? Who has been the biggest influence and role model in your life? What are your future goals?"

  • James R. Blahnik Memorial Scholarship: "How has your involvement in agriculture and/or animals helped you grow individually, expand your interest in this field, shape your career path, and help your community?"
