COMMUNITY GIVEBACK GRANT

Live Healthy, Live Well, Live Algoma is a local community coalition spanning the Algoma School District footprint, inviting community members to engage in their well-being and the overall health of the community. The initiative focuses on five segments of the population, Healthy Employers, Healthy Individuals, Healthy Children, Healthy Community, and the Commons. Each segment is led by an activation team comprised of local community members.

About Live Algoma

Since its development in 2015, Live Algoma, fulfilling its vision to become, “a community model the world will follow,” has been recognized nationally and internationally for its continuous efforts demonstrating collaboration, improvement, and empowerment including: 

  • Over 20 youth-led community improvement initiatives including the “Hands Only CPR” youth-led initiative - training over 3,000 community members and receiving the American Heart Association Community Impact Award 

  • Initiative recognized on-stage with the Dalai Lama 

  • Expansion of the Algoma Community Wellness Center and Wolf Tech Job Training Center 

  • Selected as one of 24 communities to participate in SCALE, a 20-month intensive “learning and doing” program designed to assist communities in achieving unprecedented results in improving the health and well-being of people, populations, and the community at large through IHI (Institute for Healthcare Improvement)

  • Selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Culture of Health Community (2017)

  • Selected as an All-American City by the National Civic League (2020)

Encourage community member engagement.

Provide an opportunity for community members to enhance the Algoma Community’s health and well-being through their proposed improvement project.

Collaborate with others and work together towards a common goal.

Eligibility

Individuals and organizations that serve the Algoma Community are eligible to apply. Applicants are required to attend informational workshops on Live Algoma concepts/tools and apply this learning to their improvement project should it be funded. Recipients will have access to coaching/support on how to apply these Live Algoma concepts/tools to their improvement project. Recipients must report the project outcomes at the end of the grant term.

Size of Request

Requests may be a minimum of $100 to a maximum of $5,000.

Review Criteria

Priority consideration will be given to those applicants that:

  • Expand opportunities to improve well-being outcomes for Algoma Community members in one or more of the following dimensions: Physical, Emotional, Social, Financial, Environmental, Spiritual, and/or Intellectual. 

  • Show that the applicant(s) have lived experience, talents, expertise, or passion related to the improvement project. 

  • Present a thoughtful, reasonable explanation for why the improvement project will succeed. 

  • Explain ways in which the partner will create thriving conditions, especially for those who do not have the same access or opportunity.

Live Algoma Team Members and Faculty are available to support you in brainstorming ideas for improvement projects, filling out mini-grant applications, exploring other ways to present your thoughts (other than writing an application), and answering any questions you may have.
